Felt Hats

Q: How long does a custom hat take to ship?

A: Our hats are made to order, so they can take up to a week to build and ship. With USPS Ground Advantage, you can expect a shipping time of 2-5 business days on top of that. After checkout, you will be updated with regular emails and the tracking number once shipped. If we need to source materials for your hat, that will be disclosed to you in an email and an estimated time will be given.

Q: What is your return policy?

A: Unfortunately, as all hats are made to order for your specific size & shape, we do not accept returns at the moment. If you have a problem with your hat (not fitting, details wrong), email us and we’ll see what we can do.

Q: What is the difference between wool felt, rabbit felt, and beaver felt?

A: There are differing opinions about this, but as far as we can tell, the only major difference is the softness. Fur felts are noticeably softer than wool. Some claim that fur felt, and especially beaver felt, holds up better in the weather, but we haven’t noticed any major deformations from wool felt in a good amount of rain.

Wool felt is cheaper and doesn’t technically need the animal to be killed to produce, although we can’t confirm the methods of production with our supplier.

Q: How should I store my hat?

A: Hats are best stored brim-up or hung. All Hansen Handmade hats come with a free basic hat hanger. If hats are stored brim-down for long periods of time, the brim may become unstiffened and misshapen.
